Local Cooling Centers Open During Heat Wave

With 90 percent of the state recently experiencing drought conditions, the towns of Needham, Norwood and Medfield along with YMCA have announced the opening of cooling centers. Members of the public are invited to drop-in, as needed or desired, during open hours this weekend. See locations listed, below.

The Westwood Public Library appears to be closing on Saturday at 1 p.m, its normal closing time. The Dover Town Library has announced that it is closed for emergency HVAC repairs.

Needham Cooling Centers

  • Needham Free Public Library, 1139 Highland Avenue, Needham Heights: Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Charles River YMCA:  Saturday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Norwood Cooling Centers

  • Norwood Library, 33 Walpole Street:  Saturday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Sunday, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Limited library services will also be available.

Medfield Cooling Centers

  • CENTER at Medfield (COA), 1 Icehouse Road: Saturday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. 
  • Medfield Library, 468 Main Street: Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 
  • Public Safety Building, 112 North Street: Sunday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
