Things To Do around Westwood this Weekend: Friday, Sept 9 - Sunday, Sept 11, 2022

This weekend is host to a few student-centered activities. Westwood Chinese School registration continues as the new school year begins this Sunday, in person. Students will learn the Chinese language as they also have fun with fine and performing arts and other activities. Also, Westwood's Wolverines take on the Dedham Marauders in football on Friday at Flahive Field.

After school, students and their families can head to the Greek Festival that runs throughout the weekend. Offerings include homemade Greek food, music, and shopping. Also running through the weekend is Oktoberfest at Boylston Schul-Verein in Walpole.

Summer fireworks continue, as Norwood hosts a fireworks show on Friday, in advance of Norwood Day on Saturday. Dover also holds its own celebration. Dover Days takes place on Saturday.

With school schedules just taking off, some may find this week and weekend filled with a flurry of activities. Offering a moment to reflect is Westwood's 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and the annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Dedham Fire Department headquarters.

Westwood Chinese School Registration Opens - Sun Sept 11 9:00 am

Westwood High School

Westwood Chinese School (WCS) was established in 2009 and took place at Westwood High School on Sundays during the school year before COVID-19. Registration is now open as WCS resumes in-person classes on Sunday, September 11, 2022, after two and half years of online teaching. Students receive instruction in Chinese language and other extracurricular classes in fine arts, performing arts, and more. [more details]

Boylston Schul-Verein (BSV German Club)

BSV hosts its annual Oktoberfest. Live music will include the German national hymn and folk songs. There will be a marketplace of food and gifts, games and picnic area, food vendors, and of course, beer. [more details]


Greek Festival - Fri Sept 9, Sat Sept 10, and Sun Sept 11

Cathedral Center

The Cathedral Greek Festival runs through the weekend, rain or shine. Parking and admission are free.

Entertainment and activities include Greek dancing, a raffle, attic treasures, live music, homemade Greek pastries, and a taverna.  [more details]


Norwood Day Fireworks - Fri Sept 9 6:30 pm

Washington Street

The Town of Norwood will launch fireworks from Coakley Middle School Friday, an evening ahead of Norwood Day on Saturday. On Friday,  there will be prizes, a Roaming Railroad, inflatables and games. Fireworks will be launched at dusk.  [more details]


Varsity Football: Westwood High School v. Dedham High School - Fri Sept 9 7:00 pm

Gates open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Tickets are $7 for General Admission and $5 for students and seniors. [more details]
