How to Participate in Town Government - Week of December 18, 2022 (Updated)

Of particular interest in meetings of town government this week:

Mon. 12/19: Charter Review Committee members plan to appear at Select Board's meeting to discuss a "priority recommendation concerning conversion from elected to appointed positions of Treasurer and Tax Collector."

As background for this issue, in Select Board's October 11, 2022 meeting, following the resignation of elected Town Treasurer James Galvin, Select Board unanimously voted in favor of appointing Phil Shapiro as Interim Town Treasurer through the close of Westwood's Spring 2023 Town Meeting. Then, in its December 5, 2022 meeting, Select Board voted unanimously to extend the term of Interim Town Treasurer Shapiro by adding another year, through April 30, 2024.

This latest extension of Mr. Shapiro's term as Interim Town Treasurer has the effect of forgoing placing the Town Treasurer position up for election at Westwood's upcoming Spring Town Meeting.  Before Select Board extended Mr. Shapiro's interim term earlier this month, his term had been set to expire in April 2023.

Tues. 12/20: Dedham Westwood Water District will discuss November PFAS results and action on Veteran's Road water main replacement.
