How to Participate in Town Government - Week of March 27, 2022

This week offers opportunities for both in-person and remote participation in town government. The Finance and Warrant Commission will continue its public hearings on proposed articles and amendments to place before voters at the upcoming Town Meeting. 

A few highlights:  

  • Tuesday: Select Board will discuss and potentially amend, accept, and/or remove certain articles for the Annual Town Election. Also, FinCom holds its public hearing on Select Board and Planning Board warrant articles, with members of those boards participating in the discussion. Members of the Housing Partnership/Fair Housing Committee also plan to attend.
  • Wednesday: FinCom continues its public hearing, if necessary. Also, the School Start Times Subcommittee meets to discuss potential schedule scenarios, which appear to be related to concerns regarding insufficient sleep for adolescents.
  • Friday: Select Board discusses/votes on posting the Annual Town Election Warrant and Annual Town Meeting Warrant.

Westwood Youth & Family Services March Advisory Board meeting via Zoom, Monday, March 28, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Agenda topics include updates on Wentworth Hall, staffing needs, Recognize A Youth Award, WY&FS Student Board member interviews, Westwood Public Schools and other community groups.

Select Board Meeting via Zoom, Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. The Select Board will discuss Town Election and Town Meeting updates, and potentially vote to amend, accept, and/or remove articles to be presented for a town vote. Articles that may be affected are Select Board-5 regarding acquisition of property at 90 Deerfield Avenue (American Legion Hall) and Planning Board Article zoning amendments related to a new Mixed-Use & Multi-Family Residential Overlay District(s). Select Board will also hold a public hearing on Verizon Small Cell Communications equipment (poles) on Gay Street and Pond Street.

Norfolk County Commissioners in-person and remote Public Hearing, Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. This public hearing will be held in the Commissioners’ Office Conference Room at 614 High Street (2nd Floor) in Dedham. Attendance by Zoom is also possible.

Planning Board plans to discuss changes to its six articles to amend zoning bylaws related to: (1) addition of a new Mixed-Use & Multi-Family Residential Overlay District (MUMFROD); (2) permitting and approval for solar energy arrays and facilities; (3) redevelopment and reuse of the Obed Baker House and adjacent properties; (4) providing Building Commissioner discretion to allow alterations to nonconforming properties by special permit; (5) changing the zoning designation of 394 and 396 Providence Highway; (6) corrections or clarifications to errors or inconsistencies in sections of the Westwood Zoning Bylaw.
