On Saturday, January 28, 2023 at around 1:25 p.m., Westwood Fire Department (WFD) responded to a small structure fire on Conant Road after a 911 call by a passerby who noticed smoke coming from the a garage of a home.
The fire captain responded along with a WFD engine, and a call for mutual aid was put out. Off-duty WFD personnel were called into the Westwood station(s) to provide coverage there while active duty firefighters responded to the scene.
When WFD arrived, approximately four to five persons were gathered outside, appearing to have quickly evacuated the home, says Office Manager Carolyn Wade. All people inside the home were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
The fire was contained and did not spread beyond the garage, leaving the dwelling part of the home intact. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Norwood and Walpole fire departments also responded to provide back-up at the fire. Medfield Fire Department sent an ambulance on standby.
