Thanks to WestwoodWinds Community Band for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.

After a three year hiatus, WestwoodWinds Community Band has announced a return this year to in-person rehearsals and concerts, and is issuing an invitation to any interested musicians to join its open rehearsal on Monday, June 5, 2023 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Westwood High School Band room.

Members of WestwoodWinds include musicians from Westwood, neighboring communities and even neighboring states. Most have connections to Westwood either as a Westwood High School graduate or as a current resident. The band is comprised of amateur through semi-professional musicians, from teenagers to retirees. Registration is open to amateur musicians with no audition. A newly instituted membership fee will be required this year.

WestwoodWinds musicians will be performing in a concert on Monday, August 7th, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Westwood High School Cafeteria Courtyard. A second performance will be held at Westwood's Fox Hill Village at a date and time to be announced.

WestwoodWinds will have a new Band Director this year in Melissa Laurencio, as the band's founding member, Jim Giurleo is retiring. Like Mr. Giurleo, who brought to the band his experience in Westwood Public Schools as a former K-12 director of performing arts, Ms. Laurencio has also been recruited from the local talent pool. She is a current Prodigy Program music teacher. She is also a Roma Band Director.

More information about WestwoodWinds may be found on its website at westwoodwinds.org, and questions can be sent to westwoodwinds.org@gmail.com. WestwoodWinds will also be utilizing its Facebook page more frequently to provide timely information and updates to all previous and new members, as well as to its audience.
