Westwood, Mass. – Bar ‘Cino Westwood, the town's newly opened casual dining spot with an Italian bar, last week announced that as a result of a holiday dessert promotion, customers purchased a total of 794 desserts, generating a donation of $3,296 for the Westwood Food Pantry.
From December 9th to December 22nd last year, Bar 'Cino promised that 50 percent of proceeds from desserts purchased would be donated to the Westwood Food Pantry.
“We are thrilled by the generosity of our guests and the enthusiasm for this initiative,” said Vadim Matveev, General Manager of Bar ‘Cino Westwood. “This donation is a testament to the power of coming together to support our neighbors. We look forward to continuing our efforts to give back to the community in the year ahead.”
The top dessert among customers during that period? Despite the cold of winter. . . gelato. Also popular were the eatery's pistachio ricotta cake and limoncello marscarpone cake.
“We are very grateful to Bar 'Cino for this extremely generous donation and truly appreciate their and our community’s support,” said Stacie Reiser, Executive Director of Westwood Food Pantry. “The Westwood Food Pantry is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization serving approximately 100 families and senior citizens in Westwood. We often hear ‘is there really a need in Westwood?’ The answer is yes, even if that help is only temporary, and particularly now given rapidly rising costs of food and other essentials.”
337 people showed up on a cold February night to vote against a non-binding resolution.
Yes, they did.
And this attendance and participation demonstrates how strongly folks on both sides of this issue feel about it, and how a majority of voters want the Select Board to withdraw from the lawsuit. It was a far larger turnout than in annual town meetings.
It is false to assume a large majority of voters want the Select Board to withdraw. You can only say that the majority who showed up wanted to say that. According to Google AI, the average turnout at annual town meetings is 3.9% from 2018-2025, this was 4.6%.
