Within an hour after polls closed on the evening of April 29th, Election Day 2025 for the Town of Westwood, Town Clerk Dottie Powers announced the unofficial results of voting, and Maureen Collins-White and Michael J. Derderian appear to have prevailed to win seats on Westwood Planning Board in the town’s only contested election, while results are still being tabulated for a write-in candidate for Library Trustee.
Clerk Powers did not announce the number of votes obtained by the winners, but announced the top vote-getters in all categories.
For Planning Board, Ms. Collins-White and Mr. Derderian came out on top over Nancy C. Hyde and Howard Messing. The will serve three-year terms.
For Library Trustee, Paul T. Fitzgerald, the uncontested incumbent, has retained one of the two open seats. The term will be three years. Clerk Powers noted that votes were still be tabulated for “a write-in candidate,” so it seems that another name will be announced to fill the second seat. It should be noted that pre-election campaign messages contained a pitch for voters to cast a write-in vote for Denise Hebert, who previously served five years as a trustee of the Ames Free Library in Easton.
For Select Board, the uncontested incumbent Marianne LeBlanc Cummings has been re-elected to a three-year term.
For School Committee, the uncontested incumbents Anthony “Tony” Mullin and Dorothy “Dori” Parmelee have been re-elected to three-year terms.
For Moderator, the uncontested incumbent James M. O’Sullivan has been re-elected to a one-year term.
For Assessor, the uncontested incumbent Christopher J. McKeown has been re-elected to a three-year term.
For Housing Authority, the uncontested incumbent Christine E. Previtera has been re-elected to a five-year term.
For Sewer Commissioner, the uncontested incumbent David W. Krumsiek has been re-elected to a three-year term.
Clerk Powers noted that in this election, 1,196 people voted, representing 9.6 percent of Westwood’s voting population. Ms. Powers's announcement can be viewed on Westwood Media Center's YouTube channel.
