Westwood Police Reports Pedestrian Was Jaywalking When Struck by Car

A 40 year old man was very seriously injured just after 8 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, when he attempted to cross Clapboardtree Street near Washington Street, without a crosswalk, and by stepping in front of moving traffic, according to Westwood Police Chief Jeffrey P. Silva. The pedestrian was taken by helicopter to a Boston area hospital.

Chief Silva notes that as of now, speed or distracted driving do not appear to be a factor in the accident. A preliminary investigation indicates that traffic on one side of the road was able to stop and avoid the pedestrian who was jaywalking, but a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction did not see him and struck him.

The accident continues to be investigated by the Westwood and Massachusetts State Police.
