Serious Crash on Route 1 Claims One Life, Injures Another, and Closes Road in Both Directions [UPDATED]
A deadly crash on Route 1 in Norwood occurred on Wednesday morning, November 5th, closing the busy roadway in both directions while Norwood Police and State Police investigated. Norwood Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey and Norwood Police Chief Christopher Padden confirmed in the afternoon that a driver was pronounced deceased at the scene of a crash on Route 1 in the area of Prendergast Circle this morning.
The name of the deceased, a 29-year-old man, was not initially released pending notification of next of kin. The man has now been identified by the Norfolk District Attorney's office as 29-year-old Henry Oberlander of Norwood
The driver of another vehicle, a 47-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The crash is under investigation by Norwood Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
