Are Political Posts Allowed on Westwood Minute?

Dear Readers and Contributors,

Given the recent increase in postings related to political events and candidacies, and reader questions regarding what is allowed on this platform, Westwood Minute has updated its Community Guidelines to specifically address political postings.

The most up-to-date Community Guidelines can always be found by clicking on the "About" tab at the top of the page, then clicking on the the link to the "Community Conduct Guidelines."

Also, for your convenience, I've reproduced them here. Information related to political postings are covered by Guidelines 6, 7, 8, and 9:

Westwood Minute Community Guidelines (Updated March 25, 2026)

1. State your opinion/reply/comment respectfully.

2. Give other community members the benefit of the doubt. You deserve the same.

3. Keep comments constructive and argue the issue, rather than attack the person. Arguing against a person's position is fine, but please avoid name-calling.

4. Disagreeing, taking an unpopular position, or arguing a point are NOT reasons for removal. Westwood Minute is very reluctant to remove any comments and posts -- free speech and open debate is important, along with the practice of engaging in constructive disagreement. However, personal attacks, profanity, self-serving promotions, and discriminatory or inflammatory remarks are subject to removal.

5. Confusing posts (off-topic, unintelligible, or not relevant to the discussion) may be removed to keep postings relevant and useful to readers, but again, the goal is to avoid removing any postings whenever possible.

6. Westwood Minute seeks to publish and highlight news and events of local interest that inform and are accessible to the community. As such, there is no cost to register for an account to post community information. However, please try to keep news and event postings to happenings that can be accessed by our community at an entry cost of around $40 or less per person. Some flexibility may be allowed on a case-by-case basis, especially for nonprofit organizations. However, postings that are not primarily informational and which have excessive access fees may be considered self-serving promotions and may be removed. Consider advertising as an alternative, and contact WestwoodInAMinute@gmail.com for assistance with rates, design, and/or posting.

7. Political event listings from all viewpoints are accepted on this platform. However, submissions must be informational (focused on event details rather than persuasion), include basic event details, and avoid personal attacks, disparaging language, and otherwise follow these Community Guidelines. Political event posts submitted by community members are labeled as community submissions and are not endorsed by Westwood Minute.

8. Westwood Minute may publish brief, factual notices about business openings, closings, and political candidacy announcements as part of its regular community coverage. Expanded features or profiles of businesses or people, if not covered editorially at Westwood Minute’s discretion based on news value or community relevance, may be categorized as advertising.

9. For postings that are promotional (i.e., containing content with the primary intent to market a product, service, person, or paid offering) please contact WestwoodInAMinute@gmail.com for advertising rates, or explore a self-posted ad.

10. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out via email to WestwoodInAMinute@gmail.com.

Thanks for being part of the Westwood Minute community!
