At the Westwood School Committee Meeting held in Westwood High School's Little Theater on April 14 and broadcast by Westwood Media Center, Westwood Public Schools Superintendent Timothy Piwowar introduced a new Sheehan School principal and outlined the steps being taken in a search for a new Westwood High School principal.
Stacy Mahoney, currently principal at Fannie E. Proctor Elementary School in Northborough, will start in Westwood on July 1. She will replace Interim Principal Donna Tobin, a past principal of Westwood's Martha Jones School, who took the reins following the December retirement of Kristen Evans.
At the recent School Committee meeting, Ms. Mahoney stated her intent to integrate into the Westwood community through evening events this spring, even while she continues working in her current daytime position in Northborough. Ms. Mahoney plans to attend a Sheehan PTO meeting, the school's upcoming Multicultural Festival, and a meeting with incoming kindergarten parents.
Following the welcome to Ms. Mahoney, Superintendent Piwowar described in detail the ongoing search for a new Westwood High School principal. The search for Ms. Davenport's replacement is anticipated to run similarly to past WPS leadership searches, said Mr. Piwowar.
The current principal, Amy Davenport, has been announced as Hopkinton High School's next principal. She will begin her new position on July 1.
According to a timeline presented by Mr. Piwowar, the job opening was posted on April 2 and will remain open until April 27. Following an application process to participate, on April 9, members of a screening team were confirmed, comprised of administrators, professional and support staff, families, students, and the School Committee.
Initial interviews will be scheduled for the week of May 4, and the screening committee will recommend finalists for further review.
During the week of May 11, finalists are expected to make site visits to Westwood High School and meet with families, students, and staff. Additionally, the members of the search team may also visit candidates in their current districts, said Mr. Piwowar.
Following reference checks and a preliminary offer, Superintendent Piwowar plans to make a public announcement during the week of May 25 regarding who has been selected to fill the position of Westwood High School's next principal.
