Arrest Warrant Issued for Wellesley Woman Charged of Murdering Her Two Children

An arrest warrant has been issued for Janette MacAusland, age 49, of Wellesley, Massachusetts charging two counts of murder of her children ages 6 and 7, announced the office around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, April 25. She also faces a charge of being a fugitive from justice.

Ms. MacAusland is currently being held in Vermont and is anticipated to appear on Monday in Bennington County Superior Court on the fugitive from justice charge, says the office of Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey.

The arrest warrant was issued less than 24 hours after Wellesley Police discovered two deceased children inside a home on Edgemoor Avenue in Wellesley around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, April 24. Police visited the residence after a request from a Vermont police department for a well-being check on family members in the home.

The arrest warrant was obtained by the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office. That unit has been working together with Wellesley Police Department. They continue to work together and with Vermont State Police to have the defendant transported to Massachusetts to answer to the murder charges.

The victims were students in the Wellesley Public Schools District. Counselors will be on site on Monday to provide support and services.
