On Thursday, August 27, five days ahead of the September 1 state primary, organizers said more than 150 people attended a candidate forum at Dedham Middle School, hosted by the Dedham Democratic Town Committee and the Westwood Democratic Town Committee.
The forum featured Democratic primary candidate Patrick Roath, challenger to U.S. Representative Stephen Lynch for the Democratic nomination in Massachusetts’ 8th Congressional District, and Democratic primary candidate Persis Yu, who is challenging State Senator Michael Rush in the Norfolk and Suffolk District.

Rush had planned to attend, but canceled by email on the day of the event, citing a scheduling conflict. In a press release, the organizers expressed their disappointment and said they had tried to accommodate the senator’s schedule by holding the event on August 27.
The committees said they also invited U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch to participate but did not receive a response.
“This forum was about giving voters a meaningful opportunity to hear directly from the people seeking to represent them," said John Tocci, vice chair of the Dedham Democratic Town Committee. “At a time when the issues facing our communities and our country are significant, voters deserve open, respectful discussion and a clear understanding of where each candidate stands.”
