Things To Do around Westwood: Thursday, September 10 to Sunday, September 13

The 25th anniversary of 9/11 brings opportunities to reflect with events that honor first responders and those whose lives were lost, while an author talk offers families practical strategies for building resilience. On Thursday evening, Westwood Public Library hosts author Dr. Meredith Elkins, who will share practical and compassionate strategies for supporting anxious kids amid the pressures of modern parenting. On Friday morning, the Town of Westwood will hold a 9/11 ceremony at Fire Station 2. On Saturday, the Military Friends Foundation hosts a run to honor military members and first responders.
The weekend also brings plenty of opportunities to gather, listen to music, enjoy food, and spend time outdoors. On Saturday morning, cozy up with animal friends at Powisset Farm! Then, in the afternoon and evening, relax with Dead Set, a Grateful Dead cover band, at Bellforge Arts Center.
Running through the weekend is St. Mark's Greek Fest, an annual event that brings visitors from near and far to celebrate Greek culture. On Sunday, Junk Teens holds a giveaway event, where visitors can take home usable furniture, toys, clothing, and household items on a first-come, first-served basis.

The music of the Grateful Dead is celebrated by guitarist Zach Nugent and the Dead Set band, in an evening with live music, movement, and improvisation. No outside food or drink is allowed, but a full bar and food options will be available for purchase from local vendors. All ages are welcome, and children under the age of 12 get free admission with a paying adult. Junk Teens is opening its warehouse at 61 Endicott St, Building 33, Norwood, for a first-come, first-served giveaway. The event runs from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and aims to put usable pieces of furniture from Junk Teens cleanouts directly into the hands of local families instead of sending them to disposal.
