Westwood High School’s (WHS) drama organization, Westwood Stage, is set to bring classical ancient comedy to life with a vibrant production of Aristophanes’ The Birds to WHS on Thursday, November 5 and Saturday, November 7. Not to be confused with the Alfred Hitchcock movie of the same name, this production sets an ancient Greek comedy in the setting of the late 1960s. It follows two humans who escape a corrupt world to build a utopian city in the sky with the birds, sparking a hilarious power struggle between mortals and gods.
Director Jim Howard praised the company of 25 student actors and crew for an extraordinary work ethic and collaborative spirit throughout the rehearsal process.

"Aristophanes' humor demands sharp timing, imagination, and complete ensemble trust. Our students have embraced every challenge, bringing incredible heart, humor, and skill to every rehearsal. Performing Arts is ultimately about building community, confidence, and empathy. Seeing this group collaborate so wonderfully exemplifies why theater and drama in our schools is an essential part of their education."
WHS Technical Theater classes are building and painting the vibrant world of “The Birds,” giving many students the chance to collaborate on what they hope will be an outstanding production.
Tickets are available through WestwoodStage.com. All Westwood community members are invited to come out and support these student artists.
