Westwood Community Chest Awarded Hometown Hero Award in Upcoming Boston 25 News Zip Trip Broadcast
Westwood Community Chest has been selected this year as a Boston 25 Morning News Zip Trip DCU Hometown Hero, a recognition awarded to a local resident or organization for their courage, outstanding achievements, and contributions in making the community a better place to live.
Westwood Community Chest is a 501(c)(3) public charity that is committed to assisting local residents with short-term financial and other assistance.
With a motto of "Neighbors Helping Neighbors," WCC collects and disperses funds to local residents through a grant application process. WCC grants have assisted families with job loss or in financial crisis, children in need of school supplies and medical treatment, elderly residents with unmanageable utility bills, and single parents who need to enroll children in safe summer activities. The last grant is given through a "Campership" award program. Applicant information is kept confidential.
Zip Trips has been a tradition for Boston 25 News for eighteen years. Normally an event that welcomes live crowds, because of the pandemic, this year's Zip Trips segment is a mix of pre-taped features and live interviews. The segment covers the town's residents, government officials, businesses, and organizations. It shines a spotlight on community pride, local attractions and hidden gems.
