Healthy food pantry options by Salvation Army USA West from Flickr
On Saturday, November 20, 2021, Westwood area residents have the opportunity to help feed neighbors through a food drive to benefit Westwood Food Pantry clients.
Donations for the Westwood Food Drive for Westwood Food Pantry can be dropped off in various locations - outside your door (for some households), curbside at Thurston Middle School Cafeteria between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., or into donation bins at Westwood's Roche Bros or at the Council on Aging during regular business hours.
Earlier in October, residents in Westwood and neighboring towns joined together to raise funds in support of relieving hunger through the organization, Project Bread, and the fundraising community event, Interfaith Walk for Hunger.
Westwood Food Pantry Board Member Trish Tucke noted that, “It’s the elderly that are really struggling to make ends meet. Everything just goes up in price dramatically and their benefits do not.”
Westwood Food Pantry feeds around 55 to 65 households a month, Ms. Tucke estimated. This constitutes about 500 bags of groceries per month.

Thanks to Mary Ellen LaRose, Westwood Food Pantry Board Member, for sharing this event with Westwood Minute.
Moderate or heavy snow showers, with a high of 40 and low of 27 degrees. Sunny in the morning, overcast during the afternoon and evening, clear overnight.
Senator Rush is correct re: the ambulatory services. One only has to drive on RTE 109/Westwood to see the number of out of town ambulances going through town at all times of the day. Then they have to get to Boston or Needham.
This is progress and I am glad to see the Select Board moving in the right direction. However, a majority of voters at last Monday's Special Town Meeting voted to recommend that the Select Board immediately cease its lawsuit against the Westwood Land Trust.
