Westwood Community Chest, the local non-profit which provides short-term financial assistance to Westwood residents, is immediately implementing a $250 increase in its financial crisis grant awards. Going forward, new applicants for grant awards will be eligible for up to $1,250 per household per fiscal year, rather than the previous maximum award of $1,000. The decision to increase the award amount was made by the non-profit organization last week.

Westwood residents who are in need of short-term financial assistance are encouraged to apply for a WCC grant by filling out an application. Grant applications are reviewed and grants are awarded throughout the year. In the past, WCC grants have been applied to utility bills, medical expenses, housing, clothing, and transportation costs.

WCC's grant-giving activities are funded by donations, along with its annual Gala of Giving and other fundraising events. This week, WCC collaborates with Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza for the fundraising campaign, "Order a Pizza, Help a Family in Need."  On Thursday, November 18, 2021, for each order that mentions "Westwood Community Chest," Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza's Westwood location has agreed to donate to WCC a 20 percent portion of that sale.  Those who wish to participate in the event can find more information here.
