How to Participate in Town Government – Week of December 12, 2021 (Updated)

Below are ways to participate in upcoming meetings of town government. Of particular interest may be: (1) the Historical Commission's public hearing on Monday regarding demolition of a residence at 552 Gay Street, estimated to be from the year 1750 and (2) Planning Board's discussion of zoning amendments that include siting for a new multi-family housing district, solar arrays, and rezoning of the Obed Baker House.


Board of Library Trustees meeting via Zoom, Monday, December 13, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. On the agenda are updates related to Wentworth Hall and the Islington Branch Library, Friends of Westwood Public Library, the Strategic Plan and the 21st Century Fund.

Historical Commission Public Hearing, Monday, December 13, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. The commission will hear an application for demolishing a single family residence at 552 Gay Street, estimated to be constructed in the year 1750.

Planning Board meeting via Zoom, Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. Planning Board will hold a public hearing to discuss the demolition of the existing Hanlon School building at 790 Gay Street and the construction of a new school building, parking, roads, walkways, fields, outdoor classrooms and playing area.

Public hearings will also be held regarding (1) 78 Fox Hill Street to create a new lot in the SRE zone; and (2) work at 20 Wildwood Drive, where planned changes will include slopes greater than 15 percent and finished grades that are more than five feet from surrounding elevations. 

There will also be a public work session on drafting zoning amendments to propose at Town Meeting. Discussion includes:

  • Siting a new multi-family housing district and whether to submit a draft of plans to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development;
  • Changes related to solar arrays on structures and the ground;
  • Rezoning of the Obed Baker House at 909 High Street; and
  • Rezoning of 394 and 396 Providence Highway.

Zoning Board of Appeals Public Hearing via Zoom, Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. The Board will hear an application for a Special Permit, pursuant to Westwood Zoning Bylaw Section 4.1.6.4, for an outdoor storage area to used as a display for Marble and Granite at 270 University Avenue.
