A 20 year-old male from Westwood is facing three charges of driving under the influence in Hampton District Court in New Hampshire, after he was observed by New Hampshire State Police to be speeding along Interstate 95 southbound at 127 m.p.h. in a posted speed zone of 65 m.p.h. in North Hampton shortly after 3:00 a.m. on October 14, 2023.
The Westwood resident will be charged with DUI Aggravated - Attempt to Elude, DUI Aggravated - .16+, DUI - Impairment and Reckless Operation.
A press release by New Hampshire State Police states that Trooper Cameron Vetter attempted to stop the speeding vehicle, but the driver did not stop for the trooper's emergency lights and sirens. Instead, he "continued to flee traveling southbound on I-95 toward Massachusetts."
"The vehicle slowed to approximately 60 MPH while exhibiting lane control issues. The operator was eventually stopped south of the Hampton toll plaza and taken into custody without incident," states the press release.
Patchy rain nearby, with a high of 48 and low of 30 degrees. Overcast in the morning, cloudy in the afternoon, overcast during the evening, light drizzle overnight.
These are great strides in addressing concerns about a lack of openness and two way dialogue raised by Westwood citizens. Thanks to the Select Board and to Mr. Read for listening and acting.
Thank you Ms. Galkowski for this thoughtful acknowledgement of positive steps being made by our Town government. My generation loves the positive empowerment. Exemplary.
In promulgating the public comment policy, the Select Board has taken a big step towards showing willingness to engage in conversation with Westwood residents about the many important issues at hand—currently, the Fire Station 1 and the budget.
