A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle at the corner of Pleasant Street and Garfield Avenue in Norwood, around 5:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024.
The victim was an 80 year-old woman who resided in Norwood, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey in a press release. The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. says the DA's office, which is investigating the accident along with Norwood Police and Massachusetts State Police.
In a posting to the Norwood Police Department Facebook account on Friday evening, Norwood Police noted that no charges were being issued at the time. Norwood Police noted that according to witnesses, solar glare may have been a factor.
A resident of Norwood, who witnessed the arrival of ambulance and police, told Westwood Minute that emergency response teams arrived around 5:00 p.m. She said that they performed CPR on the victim for a long time before stopping the life-saving measure. She described the area of the accident as being near an elementary school. (Callahan Elementary School is situated on Garfield Street, less than a block away from where the resident witnessed the activity.)
The driver remained at the scene. Massachusetts State Police are performing accident reconstruction.
The identity of the victim was either unknown or not yet released at the time of the posting of this article.
