Police Log: Theft of Political Campaign Signs at Four Locations, Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Parking Lot
The news described in Westwood Minute's weekly Police Log article series is primarily based on selected incidents from the Westwood Police Department's daily log, and information provided by Lieutenant Christopher Sheehy and police staff through written records and conversations. Occasionally, Westwood Minute may weave a few facts that it obtains from other sources into these stories.
Monday, October 28th
Car Vandalized
9:23 a.m. An officer responded to a condominium complex on University Avenue on the report of vandalism to a vehicle. A 2025 Honda CRV had a shattered rear window, which the owner believed occurred between Saturday night and Monday morning. The glove compartment and center console were open and appeared to have been searched. The rear trunk also appeared to have been searched, and a spare tire was missing.
Sunday, October 27th
House Party
12:27 a.m. Police responded to a home on Edgewood Drive which was the subject of a noise complaint. A large house party was in progress when police arrived. Police spoke to the attendees, who agreed to move the party inside the home.
Theft of Political Campaign Sign, IV
4:27 p.m. A resident of Baker Street reported theft of a political campaign sign being taken from the property. The resident believed the Kamala Harris sign was taken one day prior, as it was noticed missing in the morning.
Theft of Political Campaign Sign III
6:48 p.m. Police responded to a residence on Fisher Street on the report of a political campaign sign for Kamala Harris being stolen from the home’s yard. The homeowner believed it was taken between Friday evening and Sunday morning. The resident paid $10 for the sign.
Theft of Political Campaign Sign II
8:37 p.m. Police received a report from a resident of Colburn Street that a political campaign sign for Kamala Harris had been taken from the front yard. The resident believed it was taken the previous night, and valued the sign at $20.
Theft of Political Campaign Sign I
9:16 p.m. On Stearns Street, police took a report from a resident regarding the disappearance of a political campaign sign for Kamala Harris. The sign had been in the front yard. The resident believes the sign was taken during the previous night.

Saturday, October 26th
Cement Garden Bench Goes Missing
5:15 p.m. A resident of Reynolds Farm Way reported that an antique garden bench had been taken from the end of the resident’s driveway. The cement bench is valued at $200.
Friday, October 25th
Arrest for Driving Under the Influence on High Street
8:37 p.m. An officer was patrolling High Street when the officer noticed a white, 2022 Toyota Corolla that was being operated erratically. Upon making a traffic stop and administering field sobriety tests, the officer arrested the driver for operating a motor vehicle under the influence. The driver, a 52 year-old man from Arlington, was also cited with a marked lanes violation. He was released on bail set at personal recognizance.
Man Claims He Fled from Armed Assailants
11:48 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Westwood’s Fire Station 2 on Washington Street to speak with a 57 year-old man from Boston who indicated to police that he was seeking safety at the fire station. The man told police that he was chased out of his girlfriend’s house in Norwood when a group of men in an SUV displayed firearms. The man told police he boarded a bus, then watched the SUV drive in front of the bus, which the man took as indication of a plan for one of the passengers of the SUV to board the bus at an upcoming bus stop. The man then went to the bus stop at the fire station.
Police noted that the man was coherent, but there was no sign of a white SUV such as the one described. As police spoke with the individual, another bus was approaching. It was flagged down, and the man boarded the bus.
Thursday, October 24th
Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Supermarket Parking Lot
7:08 p.m. An officer responded to Wegmans supermarket on University Avenue on the report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk in front of the store. Upon arrival, police found Westwood Fire paramedics treating the man, who complained of minor pain in his front leg. The 41 year-old man from Stoughton told police that he had parked outside Wegmans around 6:15 p.m., and while crossing the sidewalk to the store, a grey, two-door Nissan Altima collided into him, striking his right leg with the passenger side front bumper. It caused the man to stumble. He noted that the driver was a female, but he was unable to get the license plate number. The driver asked if the man felt okay, and he indicated that he did. However, after shopping, his leg began to hurt. Police are investigating.
Wednesday, October 23rd
No Serious Injuries Reported in Four-Vehicle Collision on High Street
1:57 p.m. A four-vehicle collision on High Street near the Pond Street intersection resulted in all four vehicles requiring a tow, but no one was hospitalized. A Westwood woman was driving a 2014 Audi, followed by a 2015 Toyota driven by a man from Medfield, a 2017 Nissan driven by a woman from Medway, and a 2014 Volkswagen driven by a man from Medford, in that order. All vehicles were travelling east.
The Westwood woman and Medfield man in the two lead vehicles reporting seeing a child run to the road from a High Street driveway. Both drivers applied the brakes. Witnesses corroborated that the lead vehicles had stopped for a child.
The third vehicle, driven by the Medway woman, also attempted to stop. The Medford man who was driving the final, trailing, vehicle, was not able to stop in time, and crashed into the Nissan in front of him. A chain reaction occurred, resulting in moderate damage to the rear of the lead vehicle, major damage to both the front and rear of the second vehicle, major damage to the front of the third vehicle, and major damage to the front of the trailing vehicle.
All drivers refused transportation to the hospital.
Juvenile Shoplifting Suspect is Trespassed from Store
2:06 p.m. Police were dispatched to the Target store on University Avenue on the report of a juvenile who was caught shoplifting. The 17 year-old from West Roxbury told police that it was a mistake that she had not scanned some items at the self-checkout cashier. The unscanned items were worth a total of $113. They included a large bed set and a complete car detailing packaging, which were described as large items and not easy to miss in a shopping cart, according to police. The store trespassed the juvenile from the store for one year, and indicated that if there were no further incidents in that year, that no criminal charges would be filed.
Switching Prices
8:45 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Target store on University Avenue where a 55 year-old woman from Canton had been observed on store video switching price tags on items in the store. She had taken a $2 tag from a room organizer and put it on a $40 set of pillows. Another $2 tag was placed on a rug that should have been priced $20. The store trespassed the woman from the store, and she agreed to pay full price for the items. The suspect will be summoned for shoplifting.
Tuesday, October 22nd
Identity Theft to Open Credit Card Accounts
5:39 p.m. A resident of Green Hill Road reported that attempts had been made to fraudulently open three accounts at US Bank, Wells Fargo Bank and Chase Bank using the resident’s personal identification. Two of the applications were immediately declined and a third application was under evaluation. The resident alerted the bank considering the application to the fraud, and the third application was declined. The resident discovered an unknown phone number associated with the resident’s credit report. As of the time of the police report, the resident has not lost any money.
