Westwood American Legion Announces Non-Partisan Civics Programs for Students

Thanks to Westwood American Legion Post 320 for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.

Westwood American Legion has announced an invitation for students currently in their junior year of high school, or recently completing their junior year, to participate in the American Legion Boys & Girls State.

The non-partisan civics programs are aimed at providing students with an intensive week of studying responsible citizenship, government, and leadership through experiential learning. Attendees spend the week self-governing their model municipalities by electing officials, debating bills, and solving community issues. At the end of the program, the American Legion Boys & Girls State aim to have citizens leave with a better understanding of local and state government. Those that participate in the program should feel prepared to become an active citizen within their communities.

According to Ken Foscaldo, Westwood American Legion Post 320 executive board member, the program is built on the American Legion’s foundation of Americanism and God and Country in the spirit of service not self.

Students in high school who are completing or have just completed their junior year are eligible to apply for this program sponsored by Westwood American Legion Post 320, Westwood. Those interested in finding out more information can email the Post at: info@westwoodalpost320.com.
