The majority of Westwood voters have voted "no" on the sizable property tax increase proposed to fund the construction of a new Fire Station 1, according to the announcement made by Westwood Town Clerk Dottie Powers, about half an hour after the close of polls for Westwood's 2025 Special Election, held at Westwood High School's gymnasium on Tuesday evening, June 3, 2025.

On the question of whether the town should allow a debt exclusion, so that property taxes may be imposed to raise funds for FS1, in excess of the limitations imposed by state law under Proposition 2 1/2, Westwood voters answered in the negative.

There were 1,056 votes in favor of the question, and 1,236 votes against it, said Ms. Powers.

"This ballot question did not pass," she stated, definitively. Her short announcement lasted just seconds via Westwood Media Center's broadcast, around 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
