On Sunday, November 23rd, Westwood Community Chest (WCC) hosted its first Magic Show in Westwood's Pine Hill School auditorium, featuring Bonaparté, touted by the nonprofit as "Boston's Hottest Magician," a description also used by the magician, himself. Judging by the size of the crowd he drew, that label may well be accurate.
According to WCC, more than 200 children and adults were in attendance. "Bonaparté put on an amazing show, entertaining the crowd with a bunny, fire, a disappearing pizza, and a ton of interactive humor," said the organization.
Tickets were sold for $30 per family and raised over $1,300, according to WCC. With the event being sponsored by Needham Bank, WCC will be able to apply ticket proceeds toward its mission of providing confidential grants and summer camp scholarships to Westwood residents in need.
Attendees were also presented with a Luminary Night kit, to help them prepare for this year's Luminary Night. For the past few years, WCC has sold kits containing lights and simple paper lanterns for residents to decorate their walkways and outdoor areas. One December evening is designated as Luminary Night, and all participating residents will place their lights out at roughly the same time, providing residents with an opportunity to enjoy the town lit up in solidarity with neighbors in need.
Funds raised through Luminary Night, like other WCC fundraisers, enable the organization to provide short-term financial support to residents in need. Assistance can be provided to Westwood residents for paying utility bills, rent, medical expenses, summer camp, and more.
