Defendant in Organized Retail Crime Case Accepts Plea Bargain, Serves Jail Time
Following the arrest by Westwood Police on April 17 of a Brooklyn, New York resident for shoplifting and one count of organized retail crime, the suspect has pled guilty to shoplifting and is serving the remainder of a 5-month sentence that began upon his arrest, according to Westwood Police Detective Lieutenant Christopher Aylward.
At the time he was arrested, the man was wanted in connection to thefts from CVS stores in a number of states, from Illinois to Maine, and Georgia, dating back to at least the early 2020s, said Detective Lieutenant Aylward.
According to Det. Lt. Aylward, the retail theft charges have now been dismissed as part of a plea deal.
Punishment for being leader of an organized retail theft enterprise in Massachusetts can include incarceration of up to 20 years and fines of five times the value of stolen merchandise, up to $250,000.
On April 17, Westwood Police responded to Washington Street for a shoplifting in progress at the CVS store. Police located the perpetrator’s 2025 Ford Explorer with Florida plates, nearby. Police made the stop. Based on the suspect reportedly reaching behind himself, police searched the Explorer for weapons. In doing so, they discovered numerous packages of Zyrtec, Prilosec, and Rogaine and over-the-counter medicines valued at about $16,000.
The suspect was identified as a person believed to be tied to thefts in the New England area and having stolen CVS merchandise valued in excess of $700,000. The suspect was held without bail at Norfolk County Jail where he will remain to serve out his sentence.
