Police Log: Moped Operator Arrested after Fleeing Police, Missing Child Found, Investigating a Barricaded Subject

Monday, July 27
Hit-and-Run in Parking Lot
11:41 a.m. A Burlingame resident reported a hit-and-run involving his parked vehicle while he was working out at Life Time fitness center on Harvard Avenue. The complainant told police that while inside the gym, he received an alert on his phone indicating that his vehicle, a black Mercedes-Benz, had been hit. He exited the gym to the parking lot where he observed damage to his car.
Missing 6-Year-Old Found
1:13 p.m. Westwood Police responded to a request for mutual aid from Randolph Police who were searching for a missing 6-year-old boy. Westwood Police deployed their drone unit and a Westwood detective responded to the scene to assist the investigation. The child was later found uninjured in an unoccupied home, a few hundred feet away from his residence.
Resident Suspects Dogs May Have Been Poisoned
6:11 p.m. A resident of Curtis Street reported the suspicion that her two dogs may have been poisoned. She noted that after a visit from her husband from whom she is seeking a divorce, the dogs were not acting like themselves and behaving unusually.
Armed, Barricaded Suspect in Stoughton
7:59 p.m. Westwood Police responded to a request for mutual aid from Mansfield Police, who had received a report of an armed individual in the police department parking lot. Westwood Police deployed drones and a Westwood Police detective assisted with investigative work on the subject. Police later encountered the suspect in his vehicle, deceased from an apparent suicide.
Sunday, July 26
Injuries in Head-on Parking Lot Collision
4:49 p.m. Police responded to the Gables University Station apartments on University Avenue for a two-vehicle accident. A 26-year-old driving a Jeep reportedly struck an Acura sedan being driven by a 95-year-old man at the end of a driveway, as the Acura was exiting the driveway and the Jeep was turning into the driveway. The collision was head-on, and the elderly man in the Acura complained of pain after striking his chest. The Acura driver was transported to Beth Israel Hospital – Needham. Police cited the Jeep driver for failing to use care.
Suspicious Activity on Westwood Glen Road
9:32 p.m. A resident of Westwood Glen Road reported hearing a commotion outside his apartment, including a person yelling and banging on the walls. The resident reported seeing a metal wire slide under this apartment door and move side to side. When the resident approached the door to investigate, the wire reportedly was retracted. Police responded to investigate and found nothing amiss.
Noise Complaint on Canton Street
11:13 p.m. Police received a noise complaint regarding a party on Canton Street. Police advised the host to lower the music's volume.
Friday, July 24
Moped Operator Flees Police
9:03 a.m. An officer conducting stationary traffic enforcement on Washington Street observed a red and white moped without a registration plate on Washington Street that was being operated by a person without a helmet. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the operator accelerated and fled, traveling on Washington Street into Dedham.
License Lost in Mail
10:29 a.m. A resident of High Street reported a lost driver’s license. The resident had renewed her license but told police that she never received it in the mail. She reported the loss in case anybody attempted to use her license in the future.
Inn Guest is Accused of Assault and Battery
12:19 p.m. Police responded to the Budget Inn regarding an argument between an employee who resides at the inn and another guest. The employee reportedly instructed the guest to move out of the inn, after which the male guest followed the female employee back to her room. The employee attempted to film the guest on her phone, and the guest reportedly tried to slap the phone out of the employee’s hand. The guest was trespassed from the hotel and will be summoned to court on a charge of assault and battery.
Thursday, July 23
Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest on Assault and Battery Warrant
1:13 p.m. During a traffic stop in the area of Washington and East streets involving a vehicle with no inspection sticker, police discovered that the driver had a warrant for his arrest from Malden District Court for assault and battery. Police arrested the Everett resident on the warrant.
Protestors Trespassed from Car Dealership
1:14 p.m. Police responded to the Porsche dealership on Providence Highway where three individuals were found protesting the use of animals in the manufacture of vehicles. With police assistance, they were trespassed and told to leave.
Moped Operator Flees, Is Arrested for Failure to Stop and Resisting Arrest
5:19 p.m. An officer performing stationary traffic enforcement on Washington Street observed a red moped without a license plate pass by, being operated by a person without a helmet. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the moped failed to stop. Instead, it continued down Washington Street, and turned onto Clapboardtree Street.
Police followed the rider to Meadowbrook Road, where additional cruisers converged. The rider was stopped at the dead-end street and arrested for failure to stop for a police officer, operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, operating without a license, and a marked lanes violation, and resisting arrest. Police retained custody of the 18-year-old Roslindale resident's moped because he was unable to prove ownership.
Wednesday, July 22
Ex-Spouse Accused of Using Resident's Information for Loan
1:14 p.m. A resident of Canton Street reported that an ex-spouse had used the resident’s personal information to obtain a loan in 2012, and that loan is now in default. Police are investigating.
Workers Erroneously Remove $2,000 Table
1:16 p.m. An interior designer for a residence on Partridge Drive reported the loss of a client’s coffee table. The resident had purchased a coffee table, but it was damaged, and the interior designer arranged to have it picked up. However, workers picked up the wrong table, removing the homeowner’s property valued at $2,000. The owner’s table was subsequently lost. A police report may be needed for the homeowner to be compensated by the moving company.
Shoplifting Suspect Accompanied by Four Children
7:56 p.m. Asset protection staff at the Target store on University Avenue observed a woman, accompanied by four children, who reportedly placed unpaid store merchandise into a large purse. She was intercepted while attempting to exit the store, and found in possession of children’s clothing valued at $150. The resident of Jamaica Plain was trespassed from the store and will be summoned to court on a charge of shoplifting. She and her sister’s minor children were escorted from the store.
Tuesday, July 21
Bang in Basement
11:11 p.m. A resident of Washington Street reported hearing a loud bang in the resident's basement. Police responded to check. Upon investigating, police determined that the sound was likely made by toys that had fallen over.
