Small Fire at Westwood High School Extinguished Tuesday Afternoon

At approximately 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, Westwood Fire Department responded to a small fire in the laundry room located in the maintenance wing of Westwood High School. The fire resulted in an evacuation of students and staff from the building, but allowed some outdoor activities to continue, reported WHS Principal John Murray in a message emailed to the school community around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

"The building was promptly evacuated. The Westwood Fire Department responded quickly and extinguished the fire. No students were in the area of the incident, and all students and staff are safe. Students and staff remained outside for approximately 30 minutes before being dismissed for the afternoon," wrote Principal Murray in his message.

The incident resulted in the cancellation of some activities such as after-school clubs, instrumental music programs, recreation programs, and volleyball practices. Athletic practices taking place outdoors were allowed to continue, said the principal.

Dr. Murray said that school would resume as usual on Wednesday, with no interruptions to the normal schedule.
