Thanks to Heather Ford and This Star Won't Go Out for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.
On Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 This Star Won't Go Out will hold its annual Shine Under the Stars Gala at Adams Inn in Quincy. We will be celebrating in the waterfront gazebo–1790 square feet of indoor/ outdoor space to enjoy an evening with friends, raising funds for families facing childhood cancer. Masks are optional.
TSWGO began in memory of Esther Earl, a local Quincy high school student whose battle with cancer inspired the best selling novel and blockbuster movie The Fault in Our Stars. Since 2011, TSWGO has raised over $450,000 in support of childhood cancer, providing funds to help pay for travel, housing, and other cost-of-living expenses. TSWGO frees up New England families to focus on their child in treatment, rather than worrying about bills—and that’s a gift beyond value.
This Star Won’t Go Out's Shine Under the Stars Gala is a social event with a purpose, and one that you won’t want to miss! Hosted by author and TV personality Sorboni Banerjee, you’ll enjoy Hor d’Oeuvres, a la carte Stations, a seasonal cocktail option, cash bar, a raffle and silent auction, and a wine pull! You’ll learn more about our Star kids. And all of this under the starry summer night sky.
Event tickets, and specials including “tickets for two” and discounts for students and veterans are being sold now. Tickets include one free signature drink ticket.
This effort is supported by Granite Telecommunications, Daniel Hoffman, Quincy Credit Union and Eagle Environmental and other individuals. Support from local businesses and individuals is vital to making a difference for families caring for their child during their cancer journey.
I completely agree. Washington St. also has some terrible patches, especially the handicap ramps. I don’t understand why the DPW is responsible for clearing sidewalks in front of homes and businesses. It seems that those should be the responsibility of the property owner.
The sidewalks on High Rock and Hartford have been pretty treacherous this winter too. I didn't contact DPW about it though.
Cloudy , with a high of 43 and low of 26 degrees. Overcast during the morning, sunny in the afternoon, partly cloudy in the evening, overcast overnight.
A true hero, though I'm not sure about the naming of the intersection after him. We already have a school named after him. Is there no one else who dedicated their life to this Town that the intersection could be named in memory of?
Thanks for the comment. Perhaps other candidates for a named intersection might be considered by the Select Board if presented with a petition or similar process as what was used here.
