Serious Injuries in Vehicle Accident on US Route 1 South near Interstate 95

On Monday, January 9, 2023, around 11:12 a.m.,Westwood Police responded to the scene of a one-vehicle accident with serious injuries in Westwood on US Route 1 South near Interstate 95. 

A 61 year-old woman from Framingham was driving a 2015 Nissan Versa, headed south in the right lane of Route 1, when according to witnesses, her vehicle drifted onto the shoulder. The Versa struck an Eversource electric pole that is located between the properties of Shell gas station's Seasons Corner Market and Dunkin.’ 

According to a Tweet by Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the collision brought down the electric pole and/or wires.

Westwood Police note that after striking the pole, the Versa rotated 90 degrees to the left, blocking the southbound travel lane.

Westwood Fire paramedics arrived to extract the driver from the vehicle and provide medical care. Roadways were closed with the assistance of police from Dedham, Norwood, and the state.

Around 11:51 a.m., the injured driver, who suffered serious injuries, was transported by MedFlight to Boston Medical Center. Westwood Police are working with state police to reconstruct the accident.
