At the South Sectional Boys Swim and Diving Championship held at the Beverly YMCA on Sunday afternoon, February 12, 2023, the Xaverian Brothers Hawks were runners up to repeat champions Needham High School Rockets, and the Westwood High School Wolverines placed fifth, with both Westwood-based Hawks and Wolverines breaking a slew of meet and school records.
Xaverian senior Tommy Hagar set a meet record in the 100-yard backstroke at 48.66 seconds, qualifying him for All-American consideration, and followed that performance by setting a meet record in the 100-yard butterfly at 48,80 seconds, tweeted Boston Herald Sportswriter Brendan Connelly.
Mr. Connelly also reported that the Xaverian team of Tommy Hagar, Pierce Brausch, Aidan Wolcott and William Mulgrew set a meet record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36:34.
Westwood, by placing fifth, had its best showing in two decades, which included breaking three Westwood High School records, tweeted Westwood Athletics.
The new Westwood High School record holders are Alek Kangas in the 100-yard freestyle, Declan MacDonald in the 200-yard freestyle, and the team of Jason Guo, Brendon Watson, Alek Kangas, and Declan MacDonald in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.25.
The record breaking Westwood relay team placed second behind Needham, which finished at 1:29.86, and ahead of Xaverian which came in third in that event at 1:33.40.
Sunny, with a high of 91 and low of 63 degrees. Sunny for the morning, partly cloudy during the afternoon and evening, clear overnight.
This needed to happen 5 years ago. But now the real wrangling begins as MPT will fight to get as much $$$ as they can from the state as possible”just compensation.”
I appreciate all of the work and time that the FS1 Steering Committee and Select Board have put into this process. I've also noticed a big difference in communication around this from the town on Facebook and Westwood Wire. This feels like a much different process than the first time around.
Combing the FS1 vote with the general election makes a ton of sense, and in fact, makes me wonder why not do this will ALL elections instead of holding town elections in April?
Just a reminder that you can e-mail the FS1 Committee at FS1Committee@westwoodma.gov with questions/feedback, etc.
Two different votes for the Project?
First one in October for 'site selection, budget, and funding sources' for a new FS1.
Then, a November vote for 'designing, constructing, equipping, and furnishing' of a new FS1.
Seems repetitive.
