Summer hasn't yet arrived, but the carnivals are here! They run through the weekend and provide us a preview of the activities to look forward to with warmer, sunnier weather in the days and months ahead.
Did you know that May of every year is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month under a federal law passed by Congress in 1992? It's confusing, because there's also a federal proclamation naming the month of May "Mental Health Awareness Month" while at the same time there's another proclamation naming May "Asian-American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month." Between the two, mental awareness may be the theme that has greater awareness in Massachusetts. But the Town of Brookline is in the know. On Saturday, Brookline holds its first official town celebration to mark its own AAPI Heritage Day with crafts, games, prizes, food, author talks and entertainment.
Speaking of entertainment, Bellforge Arts Center recently has reopened its seasonal offerings. This Saturday, it's all about kids at Fun at the 'Forge with magic, face-painting, music and more.
On Sunday, there are a few unique offerings -- a classic car show in Needham, and a gospel music event at First Parish of Westwood.
