Detours on Highland Ave in Needham

Drivers should try to avoid driving in the area of paving operations in Needham along Highland Avenue between Wexford Street and the bridge over the Charles Rivers from May 21 to May 22, says the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Due to paving operations, there will be a detour in Needham from 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21st to 5:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22nd.

Then, beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22nd through 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23rd, the Highland Avenue bridge over the Charles River will be closed in order for night work to be performed.

Specifics from MassDOT on the detours for both May 21st ad May 22nd are as follows:

Vehicles traveling from Highland Avenue in Needham towards Newton should use the following detour:

  • Turn right onto 1st Avenue
  • Continue left onto B Street
  • Turn right onto 3rd Avenue
  • Turn left onto Kendrick Street, which becomes Nahanton Street
  • Turn left onto Winchester Street and continue straight to Dedham Street

Vehicles traveling from Needham Street in Newton toward Needham should use the following detour:

  • Turn right onto Oak Street
  • Turn left onto Chestnut Street
  • Turn left onto Elliott Street, which becomes Central Avenue
  • Turn left onto Gould Street to Highland Avenue
