At the district math meet on Wednesday afternoon, April 10th, student representatives from all four of Westwood's public elementary schools - Downey, Martha Jones, Pine Hill, and Sheehan - competed against each other at Thurston Middle School to see which would come out on top.
For fifth grade, the students of Pine Hill School took first place, giving the newly opened school academic accolades that most likely are among its first.
For both third and fourth grades, the students of Downey School were the victors.
For the first time, the competition was opened to second graders this year, but not all schools participated.
For more on the district math meet, keep an eye out for an article and photos soon to be published in Westwood Minute!
Patchy rain nearby, with a high of 48 and low of 30 degrees. Don't forget your umbrella! Overcast during the morning, cloudy for the afternoon, overcast during the evening, light drizzle overnight.
These are great strides in addressing concerns about a lack of openness and two way dialogue raised by Westwood citizens. Thanks to the Select Board and to Mr. Read for listening and acting.
Thank you Ms. Galkowski for this thoughtful acknowledgement of positive steps being made by our Town government. My generation loves the positive empowerment. Exemplary.
In promulgating the public comment policy, the Select Board has taken a big step towards showing willingness to engage in conversation with Westwood residents about the many important issues at hand—currently, the Fire Station 1 and the budget.
