Image from Dore + Whittier, Westwood Public Schools Master Plan presentation to School Committee (April 5, 2025). In Westwood Public Schools, Thurston and Sheehan Schools are in most need of attention, according to consultants' assessments.

In a series of community forums scheduled for this October and November, Westwood Public Schools (WPS) Superintendent Timothy Piwowar will present the schools section of the recently completed facilities study that the Town of Westwood commissioned in 2024 to help it establish which school and municipal building(s) might need to be renovated or replaced.

WPS invites the public invited to attend any of the upcoming events to learn more and share feedback:

  • Friday, October 17, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. in the Community Room of the Westwood Public Library on High Street.
  • Monday, November 10, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Westwood Public Library on High Street.

The school district notes that study results, as well as a two-part video series on the Facilities Plan, can be found here.

Interesting.  When our School Committee Member, Tony Mullen, was asked at the FS1 forum, if Dore + Whittier has been involved in the School Departments Facility study, he said no.

Is Dore + Whittier on the Town payroll?  Seems like it.  Their involvement with Town projects is over the top.  Maybe time to consult with the MA IG's office and D+W's excessive use?  Has the Town just gotten lazy and/or left things to the last minute to justify their use and won't seek other firms?
