Police Log: Assault and Battery Reported at Baseball Game, Suspect Enlists Help from Store Staff, and Other Incidents

Monday, July 13
Assault and Battery Reported at Baseball Game
1:36 p.m. A parent reported that their son was the victim of assault and battery while playing in a baseball tournament at Xaverian Brothers High School earlier in the day. The 13 year-old son reportedly was playing on the infield and an opposing player hip-checked him and elbowed him.
Friday, July 10
Knife Found Outside Business
1:33 p.m. Staff of a financial business on University Avenue discovered a kitchen-style knife in the tree line adjacent to the business and reported it to police. It is unknown how long the object had been there.
Thursday, July 9
Report of Vandalism to Vehicle
8:09 a.m. A customer of Life Time fitness center on Harvard Street reported that her Chevrolet Tahoe had been vandalized while she was inside the gym. There were large scrapes at the rear driver’s side and rear bumper. Upon investigation, police determined that the damage had occurred previous to her arrival at the business.
Not Kidnapping but a Misunderstanding
3:29 p.m. Police received a call from an Uber driver who was parked at the Budget Inn on Providence Highway following an incident with a customer. The driver told police that a male passenger exited her vehicle in a panic because he believed she was kidnapping him. He was reportedly unfamiliar with the area and requested that the driver proceed according to his directions, but the driver insisted on following the route indicated by her GPS navigator. They argued, she stopped the vehicle, and he reportedly got out and ran. The man eventually got back into the vehicle, and they continued the ride. Police believe there was a misunderstanding.
Suspect in Shoplifting Has Multiple Arrest Warrants
4:02 p.m. Police received a report from a store on University Avenue regarding two suspected shoplifters – a male and female, described as being in their 40s to 50s. They reportedly walked into the store, grabbed merchandise, and brought the items to the return counter. After their “return” was rejected, they walked out of the store with clothing valued at $50. Store staff stopped the pair and recovered the merchandise. The suspects reportedly fled in a car, covering the rear license plate with a T-shirt.
Police identified the driver of the vehicle, and discovered that she had seven warrants for her arrest, including warrants related to shoplifting, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and concealing a license plate. Along with these new charges which will necessitate her appearance in Dedham District Court, she has warrants to appear in courts in Norfolk, Quincy, Boston, and Woburn for offenses that include shoplifting, drug violation(s), and operating iwth a suspended license.
After the incident in Westwood, police say the suspect was arrested by Weymouth Police Department on multiple warrants on July 14.
Suspect Asks Store Employee to Remove Security Tags
8:49 p.m. Loss prevention staff at the Target store on University Avenue observed a person take store clothing merchandise to an employee, requesting that the security tags be removed. The suspect then returned to the self-checkout and reportedly placed the items into a bag and attempted to leave without paying. The Canton resident was stopped and will be summoned for the alleged shoplifting of women’s clothing valued at $138.
Shoplifting Suspect Intercepted While Fleeing
9:27 p.m. Staff of the Target store on University Avenue observed a male push a cart of unpaid merchandise out of the store, load the merchandise into a car, and drive out of the shopping center. Police intercepted the suspect about a half-mile away. The merchandise was recovered and returned to the store. The suspect, a resident of Attleboro, will be summoned to court.
Wednesday, July 8
Assisting Bicyclist
6:21 a.m. Police assisted a bicyclist with a flat tire on Nahatan Street.
Unknown Cause of Broken Window
10:11 a.m. Police received a report of a broken window on an excavator that was left overnight at a house in the area of Rockmeadow and Dover roads. It is unknown if damage was intentional.
Resident Reports Concern about Idling Van
11:20 a.m. A resident of Highland Glen Road reported that a hospital van was unoccupied but running, with its lights pointing into her window for the last few hours. Police believe the van was parked in that manner in response to a medical call on a hot day, and that the driver left the air conditioner running.
Employee Reports Being Poked in the Nose
5:11 p.m. An employee of Ulta Beauty on University Avenue reported that as she pulled into the parking lot outside her place of employment, she became involved in an argument with a pedestrian who apparently was upset that the vehicle had come so close. The pedestrian reportedly reached through the driver’s side window and poked the complainant’s nose, then turned and walked away. The identity of the pedestrian is unknown.
Tuesday, July 7
Browsing the Cars after Midnight
12:41 a.m. Police received a report from security for Audi Westwood on Providence Highway that three males were seen getting into a vehicle on the dealership property. They told police they were just looking at the cars.
Suspected Shoplifting of Makeup
5:53 p.m. Staff at Nordstrom Rack on University Avenue apprehended a 26-year-old suspect who reportedly had concealed two items of makeup valued at $61, and attempted to leave the store without paying. They suspect, a resident of Framingham, will be summoned for shoplifting.
