Fall festivals are in full swing this weekend! Westwood Young Women's Club's annual Harvestfest returns to the Martha Jones School in Westwood on Saturday. Needham also hosts its annual Harvest Fair on Sunday. Rocky Woods Reservation celebrates fall with a Family Woodland Jamboree in Medfield, while Adams Farm celebrates the season in Walpole.

Fall's mild weather is perfect for some outdoor exploration. Get to know Clapboardtree Meadow with Westwood Land Trust and Dedham Town Forest with Westwood Community Trails. Hale Education invites mountain bikers to its Great Pumpkin Smash MTB Race.

Also, local observances of America's 250th anniversary continue, as the Walpole Historical Society demonstrates what a Continental soldier ate and carried.

Free Dehumidifier Recycling Drop-Off - Sat Oct 3 9:00 am

50 Carby Street, Westwood

Westwood residents are invited to recycle their working dehumidifier for free from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The free drop-off is limited to Westwood residents. Mass Save sponsors are also offering rebates for recycling inefficient, working dehumidifiers. Rebate forms will be available at the event and forms can also be completed online. Items other than working dehumidifiers may be recycled for a fee. [more details]


WYWC Harvestfest - Sat Oct 3 10:00 am

Group Hike to Dedham Town Forest - Sat Oct 3 10:00 am

960 Washington Street (starting point), Dedham

On this monthly hike organized by Westwood Community Trails, hikers will meet at 10:00 a.m.  at 960 Washington Street in Dedham for a 3-mile hike over mostly flat terrain through Dedham Town Forest. No registration is required.  [more details]


Family Woodland Jamboree - Sat Oct 3 12:00 pm

Rocky Woods, Medfield

Rocky Woods Reservation will host the inaugural Family Woodland Jamboree, featuring popular children’s musician “Happy Julie," from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The outdoor family concert in a historic woodland setting offers music and activities for young children, families and friends.  [more details]

Adams Farm, Walpole

What a Continental Soldier Ate and Carried - Sat Oct 3 12:00 pm

33 West Street, Walpole 

In this 250th anniversary year of the nation's founding, visitors can join an outdoor demonstration of how Minutemen prepared to march out of town, learn about their rations contents of a soldier's pack. Held at Walpole Historical Society, the museum rooms of the society will also be open to visitors. [more details]


Great Pumpkin Smash MTB Race - Sun Oct 4 9:00 am

Hale Education, Westwood

Compete against other cyclists or just ride a 4-mile course for fun on some of Hale's best trails. 

This event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is designed as an XC short-track race format, with opportunities for racers of all ages and abilities.   [more details]


Take a Walk with Westwood Land Trust - Sun Oct 4 10:00 am

Clapboardtree Street, Westwood

Take a guided walk through Clapboardtree Meadow with Westwood Land Trust. All ages are welcome. Park on nearby Meadowbrook Road and gather at 665 Clapboardtree Street. Long sleeves, pants and repellent are recommended. [more details]
