As the final whistle blew, the Thurston Middle School 8th-grade football season came to an end with an incredible 42-14 victory over Medfield. This marked the team’s second convincing win over their crosstown rival on enemy turf this season!

While the players have put away their helmets and pads, the memories made over three short months will last a lifetime. The vast majority of this group had never played tackle football before. Yet through countless hours of grueling practices, they worked hard, faced challenges, and learned what it truly means to be a team—handling tough losses and exciting victories alike with pure class. Every single player contributed, giving their absolute best on the field and fiercely supporting their teammates from the sidelines.

The team was incredibly fortunate to be led by the best: Coach Hoffer, Coach Eddie, and Coach Terence. This season was especially meaningful as it marked Coach Hoffer’s final season after decades at the helm of the Thurston Bulldogs football program. The entire Westwood community is profoundly grateful for Coach Hoffer and his legendary impact on youth athletics.

As this group of 8th-grade Bulldogs transitions to High School Wolverines, the Tri-Valley League better be on notice. Friday nights at Flahive Field are going to be a nightmare for visiting teams for the next four years!

Thanks to Catherine McVay, Jessica Casserly, Kerry Capodilupo, Jackie O'Doherty, James Spidle, Sean Smith and TMS Bulldogs Football for organizing the team gift and contributing this article to Westwood Minute.
