On October 10 (Indigenous Peoples Day) and October 30, 2022, the MFA offers free admission and the opportunity to view the first presidential portraits ever commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery from African American artists.
The Obama portraits were unveiled in 2019 and have been on tour since 2021, and make their seventh and final stop at Boston's MFA. On these two free viewing days in October, tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The portraits can be viewed for paid admission on other days in October, and return to the Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. in November 2022.
