In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 29th, police departments from Norwood, Westwood, Dedham, Walpole, and Foxboro participated in a high speed chase of two vehicles occupied by seven juveniles, who led police through multiple towns before crashing both vehicles and falling into police custody.

All seven juveniles will face charges. They are four females and three males, aged 13 to 15. Charges will include negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding 95 m.p.h. in a 50 m.p.h. zone, and failing to stop for a police officer. Possible charges may also include those related to the theft of the two vehicles.

Around 1:50 a.m., a Norwood Police Officer observed an Infiniti SUV and a red Lincoln exit the Mobil gas station near Dean Street, enter the southbound lane of Route 1, and make illegal U-turns to head northbound. The officer activated his lights, and both vehicles fled.

A second Norwood Police officer caught up to the fleeing cars. A check of the license plate of the Infiniti showed it was stolen.

Moments later, Norwood Police received a report that the red Lincoln was just stolen from Pleasant Street in Norwood, and that both the Lincoln and the Infiniti were reportedly involved in a shoplifting at the Mobil station where Norwood Police first observed them.

The two Norwood officers pursued the Infiniti and Lincoln on Route 1 north, into Westwood and Dedham. In Dedham, two Dedham Police officers took over primary pursuit until the Infiniti crashed at Route 1 and Washington Street in Dedham. Three occupants fled, while one remained in the vehicle, injured. Police located two of the fleeing juveniles, and transported them to Boston Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Meanwhile, around 1:55 a.m., after receiving a broadcast for local area police to be on the lookout for the stolen red Lincoln, a Westwood Police officer driving his cruiser in the area of 320 Washington Street in Dedham realized that the stolen car was in front of him. He attempted a traffic stop, but the Lincoln fled south on Route 1. The officer pursued the car on Route 1 south from Dedham through Westwood, while notifying law enforcement along Route 1 that the car would be approaching their jurisdictions.

A Norwood officer, hearing the alert, positioned himself at Pendergast Circle in Norwood to monitor Route 1 South, and eventually spotted the vehicle. He pursued it through Norwood and Walpole until the Foxboro line where Foxboro Police and State Police assisted.

As the vehicle approached Foxboro’s Main Street, Foxboro Police deployed Stop Sticks (spike strips) across Route 1 southbound to force the vehicle to stop. The speeding vehicle drove over the sticks, causing its tires to deflate. The vehicle continued to flee, just over the Wrentham line, where it crashed into a guardrail.

All three juvenile occupants of the Lincoln were given medical evaluations. They were arrested and were transferred to Norwood Police custody by around 2:45 a.m.

In a Facebook post, Norwood Police Chief Christopher Padden recognized the police departments of Dedham, Westwood, Walpole, Foxboro, Wrentham, and Massachusetts State Police for assisting Norwood Police Department. “Their coordinated response, communication, and willingness to step in at critical moments were instrumental in safely apprehending all suspects and protecting the public. The professionalism displayed throughout the night underscores the strength of our partnerships and the shared commitment to community safety,” he stated.
