On January 11, 2026, the poets of the Tuesday Evening Workshop at the Westwood Public Library will celebrate their fourth anniversary. The biweekly workshop is led by Lynne Viti, inaugural poet laureate of Westwood ( 2023-2025). The workshop was launched near the end of the pandemic, meeting for the first few gatherings remotely before moving to in-person workshops in Winter 2022. The writing group meets biweekly from September through May for roundtable discussions of each writer’s work in a supportive atmosphere. At each workshop, all poets have an opportunity to recite their original poem for that week, and receive honest feedback from fellow poets.
Since that first meeting in January 2022, the following poets have enjoyed publication in literary journals: Karen Michelson, Sherri Stepakoff, Jan Brogan, Mike Dwyer and Marilyn Gove. Additionally, all participants have contributed poems to four paperback anthologies which are part of the Westwood Library’s circulating collection.
Members of the workshop, along with a featured New England poet, will read at the fifth annual town-wide Poetry Reading and Open Mic at the Westwood Public Library, April 7, 2026, 6:30-8:00 PM. At that time, members of the public will be welcome to read a poem –an original one or a favorite one by someone else—at the open mic. The event will be free and open to the public, with poets’ books for sale and signing after the reading. For further information about the event, contact the Westwood Public Library at 781-326-7562.

This is progress and I am glad to see the Select Board moving in the right direction. However, a majority of voters at last Monday's Special Town Meeting voted to recommend that the Select Board immediately cease its lawsuit against the Westwood Land Trust.
What is the citizen's petition about? I checked the town website, and the only information I could find on town meeting articles was from last year. The public hearing dates for 2026 are posted as February 24-25.
Apparently, you need to submit a public records request through the town's FOIA portal. What a shame, since it should have been posted to the town website upon certification of petition signatures.
Westwood Minute has obtained a copy of the petition and has added a short description of it to the article. A copy of the petition is attached below the article.
