On September 22, 2022, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a company-initiated recall of Spalding Momentous EZ Assembly Portable Basketball Goals, which CPSC says can cause an impact injury to consumers.
"Welds in the arm attaching the backboard to the pole can fail and cause the backboard to fall," notes the CPSC alert.
CPSC notes that Spalding has received 26 reports of weld failures, and 3 reports of backboards separating from the pole. One reported injury occurred when a backboard hit a consumer on the shoulder or upper torso. Another injury occurred when a consumer was hit on the head.
The product was sold online at Spalding.com and Amazon.com and at Academy and Scheels stores between May 2021 to April 2022. A small number were also sold in Canada. The product retailed for a price range of around $400 to $600.
Consumers who believe they are affected by this recall should contact Spalding at 800-558-5234 on Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST, or on Friday from 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. EST. Consumers can also contact Spalding online at www.spalding.com/recall.html or www.spalding.com. On Spalding's home page, click on "Voluntary Recall" at the bottom, under SUPPORT.
I am in complete support of the refurbishing and reopening of Norwood Hospital. I was working at Saint Elizabeth during this time. When steward took over our HOSPITAL group, Caritas Christie. They decimated not only our hospitals, but also two hospitals in the tiny nation of Malta.

Senator Rush is correct re: the ambulatory services. One only has to drive on RTE 109/Westwood to see the number of out of town ambulances going through town at all times of the day. Then they have to get to Boston or Needham.
This is progress and I am glad to see the Select Board moving in the right direction. However, a majority of voters at last Monday's Special Town Meeting voted to recommend that the Select Board immediately cease its lawsuit against the Westwood Land Trust.
