Westwood Community Chest Extends Luminary Kit Sales into Sunday Afternoon, Dec. 11th

After successfully selling hundreds of luminary kits for Westwood Community Chest's (WCC's) first ever Luminary Night, upcoming on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., WCC has announced it is adding a new sales location and extended selling times from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at Westwood's gift shop, Decor and More.

This Sunday's Luminary Night is WCC's attempt to "unite the night" and the community in a festive event. Aside from creating the pleasing effect of a community-wide display of lights, the event will also visually demonstrate Westwood residents's  support of their neighbors in need.

All proceeds from sales of luminary kits will go to fund WCC's short-term financial crisis grants that are awarded to Westwood residents in need. Grants have helped residents avoid imminent foreclosures and evictions, and have helped residents escape terminations of heat, electric, and phone service.

As an almost entirely volunteer-run organization, WCC so far had been able to staff luminary sales for only limited hours at different locations in town. However, this Sunday now presents almost a full day when community members, who are interested in participating in Luminary Night, can obtain kits to build simple luminaries to set out on Luminary Night. Kits will be sold at Muffin House Cafe on Sunday, December 11th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and at Decor and More from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Luminary Night event will begin two hours after sales end at Decor and More.
