Tom Themistocles is running for Westwood School Committee on Tuesday, April 25th. He and his wife, Tara, have four children who range in age from 4 to 15 years old. Tom is committed to making sure the district meets the needs of all students. He wants to maintain academic excellence and be fiscally responsible at the same time. He believes his financial background will help the district achieve this.
If elected, Themistocles says one of his priorities will be teacher retention “Westwood schools have some of the best teachers in the country. We need to make sure they stay here. Hiring qualified teachers, paying them well, and retaining them is key to students' success.”
Themistocles says “it is important that we maintain the current excellence of our school system. Academic integrity that includes math, reading, writing, and STEM should continue to be areas of focus for our schools.” His focus would also be on the social-emotional well-being of all students.
Themistocles grew up in Hanover, MA. He went to Wesleyan University, where he played football. After graduating, he went to work on Wall Street for several years eventually settling with his family in Westwood. Giving back to his community s very important to Themistocles. He has volunteered for the USVI chapter of Junior Achievement and coached Westwood youth soccer, t-ball, softball, and football. He has also volunteered for numerous Martha Jones PTO events. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Westwood Booster Club.
Themistocles says “being able to work with all people to achieve a common goal is my strength. In this case, it would be championing the needs of all students in Westwood.”
