Thanks to Lynne Viti for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.
Westwood poets, both seasoned and emerging, celebrated National Poetry Month on April 25 at the second town-wide poetry reading. Westwood Poet Laureate Lynne Viti served as emcee for the evening, starting the program by reading a well-known e.e. cummings’ poem , 'in Just-', a lighthearted salute to spring.
The open mic segment, featuring Hale Education Artist-in-Residence Will C, Georgia Perry, Sophie Ritz and Julia Beauregard, kicked off the evening of original poetry.
The Tuesday Poetry Workshop poets then took the verse they had written and revised over the past several months, ranging from the very serious to the lighthearted. Guest poets Lucie Sechler and Jane Hart joined the lineup for this occasion. The audience was responsive and lively, clapping, snapping fingers, and calling out shouts of approval at the end of each poet’s five minute reading.
The Westwood Library Tuesday workshop poets are Jan Brogan, Debra David, Mike Dwyer, Avi Glaser, Marilyn Gove, Elizabeth Johnson, Brian Mich, Karen Michelson and Sherri Stepakoff.
I completely agree. Washington St. also has some terrible patches, especially the handicap ramps. I don’t understand why the DPW is responsible for clearing sidewalks in front of homes and businesses. It seems that those should be the responsibility of the property owner.
The sidewalks on High Rock and Hartford have been pretty treacherous this winter too. I didn't contact DPW about it though.

A true hero, though I'm not sure about the naming of the intersection after him. We already have a school named after him. Is there no one else who dedicated their life to this Town that the intersection could be named in memory of?
Thanks for the comment. Perhaps other candidates for a named intersection might be considered by the Select Board if presented with a petition or similar process as what was used here.
