Spring flowers are in bloom everywhere, the trees suddenly have leaves, and “The Westwood Ringers in Concert” will take place on Saturday, May 13, at 4:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to this free concert that will be held in Fellowship Hall at the First Baptist Church, 808 High Street in Westwood.

This annual spring concert will celebrate the season including such songs as “You Raise Me Up,” “The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus,” “Morning Has Broken,” and “All Creatures Great and Small,” plus many more by a number of highly respected handbell composers and arrangers. It is expected to run approximately an hour.

The Westwood Ringers came into being as a youth group in 1965, and their composition has gradually changed over the years. There are currently eleven Ringers including their director, Daniel Moore, and all are adults, spanning a wide range of ages. They come from Westwood and a number of surrounding towns including Dedham, Norwood, and Walpole, and from as far away as Franklin and Marlborough. They have gradually increased the number of their instruments over the years, and today they can ring five complete octaves of bells as well as five octaves of hand chimes.

The Ringers are always looking for new members, either as substitutes or to fill full-time positions. After the concert, they would be happy to speak with anyone who wants to know more about ringing handbells or is interested in joining the group. For more information about the concert, contact the First Baptist Church office at 781-461-1730 or via email at office@fbcwestwood.org.
