A seven-month old stray kitten, found on the streets of Lowell, Massachusetts late last week, is now recovering at the Animal Rescue League of Boston's Dedham facility after an emergency amputation surgery on the kitten's hind leg, which was fractured beyond repair.

The female kitten, now called Baguette, had no external injuries, but the critical nature of her fractured hind leg meant she needed immediate veterinary care. ARL performed the emergency surgery after being contacted by Lowell Animal Control, which transported the kitten to ARL's Dedham Animal Care and Adoption Center.

ARL notes that it was able to absorb the costs of Baguette's life-saving surgery, which ARL estimates would have been in the thousands of dollars if performed at an emergency veterinary hospital. The charity, which provides veterinary care, adoption, and field services, holds itself out as a resource for animal control officers throughout Massachusetts.

ARL notes that Baguette has shown remarkable progress and is now living without pain and showing an infectious personality. While Baguette continues her recovery, she is currently unavailable for adoption. However, ARL estimates that she could become available in the next week or so.
