Thanks to the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office for contributing this news to Westwood Minute.
Following the success of a soft-launch in March, the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation hosted the first of a series of free self-defense classes for women in Braintree on June 6th. Additional classes are planned to be held throughout Norfolk County.
“After the overwhelmingly positive response of our soft launch in March, I am proud that the NCSO and Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation can partner together for this life-saving opportunity for our county’s women,” said Sheriff McDermott.
Participants in the June 6th class learned a variety of self-defense techniques as well as strategies to improve situational awareness. The NCSO provided instructors trained by the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation who guided participants through the two-hour long program.
The next class will be held on June 26th in Quincy at the Kennedy Center (440 East Squantum Street). The class is currently full but is accepting registrations for the waitlist. Waitlisted participants will be given priority for future announced classes.

I completely agree. Washington St. also has some terrible patches, especially the handicap ramps. I don’t understand why the DPW is responsible for clearing sidewalks in front of homes and businesses. It seems that those should be the responsibility of the property owner.
The sidewalks on High Rock and Hartford have been pretty treacherous this winter too. I didn't contact DPW about it though.
Sunny, with a high of 37 and low of 14 degrees. Sunny during the morning, clear during the afternoon and evening,
A true hero, though I'm not sure about the naming of the intersection after him. We already have a school named after him. Is there no one else who dedicated their life to this Town that the intersection could be named in memory of?
Thanks for the comment. Perhaps other candidates for a named intersection might be considered by the Select Board if presented with a petition or similar process as what was used here.
