ARL Seeking Special Home for Dog with Vision Impairment, Neurological Deficits
A former stray dog that is afflicted with vision impairment, as well as a suspected neurological condition is seeking a special home, and the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) is committed to finding the perfect situation he deserves, despite his medical challenges.
The dog, now named Dapper, was found as a stray in Newton in late May, and given his condition, was extremely lucky he wasn’t injured or worse during his time wandering the streets alone. Newton Animal Control transported Dapper to ARL’s Dedham Animal Care and Adoption Center, where he was been receiving care ever since.
Along with vision impairment, it’s suspected that Dapper has hydrocephalus – a condition where there is an excess of cerebrospinal fluid inside the skull. Symptoms associated with hydrocephalus include a misshapen skull, intermittent circling, unusual gait, neurological issues, among others. ARL urges his adoptive family to consult with their regular veterinarian to formulate a care plan, and explore other diagnostic tools to help confirm and assess the severity of his condition.
Sadly, dogs with this condition typically have a shortened lifespan, however, Dapper currently has a good quality of life, he’s happy and friendly, and deserves the opportunity to have a family of his own.
Anyone with the means and ability to care for Dapper and help him live his fullest life by opening up their heart and home is encouraged to contact ARL.
